Welcome to the Town of Ethan's web site! We are a small community just 10 miles south of Mitchell, SD that celebrated our 125th anniversary in 2008. Our town has many activities to offer for people of all ages. As you can see we have a beautiful park that continues in the process of improvement. Our school and businesses have many things to offer also. We feel that this is a great community for friends and family to come together! Items accepted at the site include: trees, grass, yard and garden waste (not bagged).

Landfill Notice

The Ethan landfill (rubble site) is no longer able to accept construction materials.
Effective July 15, 2019 we are accepting only grass, trees and other yard waste.
The hours will be Monday and Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Contact Bob Riggs at 227-4230 if
entry is needed at any other times.


Ordinance Guidelines for Weed Control

Any weeds or plants declared as noxious weeds by the State Weed Board and all other weeds and grass
growing upon any lot or parcel of land in the Town shall not reach a height greater than 10 inches.

 

ATTENTION

Ethan Town Ordinance (Chapter 3, Sec. 3.3.5-N) prohibits any person to pump ground water from a sump pit or drain tile pit into the city’s sanitary sewer system.
This city ordinance is mandated by South Dakota laws and regulations governing what type of liquids are allowed in sanitary sewer systems.

Residents are advised that anyone found routing their drainage into the sanitary sewer system will be notified of the violation.
You will have two (2) weeks to correct the violation. If at that time you are still in violation you will be fined $250.

Please help keep the city’s sanitary sewer system within its design limits by keeping all but sewage from entering the sanitary sewer system.
